Issue/Introduction

Our CA common services program EARL obtained thru linklist is calling SORT.  In order for EARL/SORT to use the ZIIP engines, we need to re-link EARL with AC=1.  Is that possible/recommended

Environment

z/OS 2.5

Earl 6.1

Syncsort any release

Cause

Earl is not normally APF authorized and is not packaged and provided as an AC=1 linked package

Resolution

Our product was not designed to run with AC(1). We do not believe this is the proper solution to the issue and strongly recommend you do not use it.

Given EARL is not APF authorized, when it CALLs SORT, the environment is not what SYNCSORT expects for their zIIP option. We’d hope that SYNCSORT could analyze the situation and design a solution for the authorization issue. For example; they might be able to issue a SYNCSORT defined user SVC, to invoke a SYNCSORT PC routine, etc. Whatever solution is devised, it should address the environmental restrictions for zIIP exploitation.
