Issue/Introduction

When the SiteMinder Policy Server host is entered incorrectly during initial installation, or when the configuration must be pointed to a new server, manual updates to the deployment files are required. This article outlines the procedure to modify the ra.xml configuration file to update the Policy Server connection host without performing a re-installation.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

The Policy Server hostname is stored as a property in the ra.xml file within the deployed iam_im.ear archive. During installation, this property is populated and remains hardcoded until manually updated.

Resolution

  1. Stop the Identity Manager (IM) application server service.
  2. Locate the ra.xml file within the deployment directory: ../iam_im.ear/policyserver.rar/META-INF/ra.xml
  3. Edit the ra.xml file.
  4. Locate the ConnectionURL property.
  5. Replace the existing policy server hostname (e.g., localhost) with the correct host. Example: ConnectionURL -> newhostname,44441,44442,44443
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Clear cached deployment files (e.g., delete temp files in the /tmp directory, depending on your application server).
  8. Restart the application server.
