Insufficient permissions to update linked server connections

Issue/Introduction

The following error is displayed when attempting to update the properties of a data source integration in the Information Centric Analytics (ICA) console:

The service account may not have sufficient permissions on the SQL Server to perform this operation. Exception: User does not have permission to perform this action.

Cause

The sysadmin role has been removed from the ICA service account but the account has not been granted the Microsoft SQL Server permission Alter any linked server. The use of the sysadmin role in SQL Server is typically limited by organizational security policies.

Resolution

Follow the procedure provided in the Permission Settings for the ICA Service Account Outside of the Using the SQL Server sysadmin Role section of the Symantec ICA Administrator Guide to configure the ICA service account to operate without the sysadmin role.
