Error: "too many different volume sizes detected" in Security Analytics

Issue/Introduction

When following the Security Analytics Gen8 Hardware Installation and Configuration Guide and you reach the step "Configure and Capture Indexing Filesystems" by running the command: "/usr/local/sbin/powervault_build_system_commands.py", you get the error: "Error too many different volume sizes detected"

Environment

Multiple storage extensions connected to the main sensor

Cause

You are getting the error "Error too many different volume sizes detected" because Security Analytics assumes you have two distinct disk group sizes: 1 for index and 1 for capture. In some environments, after adding external enclosures that may contain different-sized disks, too many different sizes of disks are detected.

Resolution
