Issue/Introduction

After upgrading ITMS and Deployment Solution to 8.7.1, PXE-E99 may be noticed when attempting to PXE boot to NBS servers in some environments

Environment

Deployment Solution 8.7.1

Upgraded NBS Site servers using SbsMtftp.exe version 6.9.12514.0

Cause

In some customer environments, certain network devices may send broadcast TFTP messages which are intercepted by the PXE server. SbsMtftp.exe version 6.9.12514.0 which is included in DS 8.7.1 may not gracefully handle or interpret TFTP messages that are unrelated to PXE. In some environments, this traffic can cause the SbsMtftp.exe service to stop listening to valid PXE requests. This can cause PXE-E99 errors when attempting to PXE/iPXE boot an endpoint.

Resolution

A drop-in fix is available for 8.7.1 which will gracefully handle invalid traffic. The fix will be included in 8.7.2. Please contact Broadcom Technical Support if the drop-in fix is required.
