Issue/Introduction

When attempting to manually install ARD Studio 3.3 I get a message stating "A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file \appdata\roaming\CA\AgileDesigner\Install\disk1.cab has an invalid digital signature".  I have tried downloads for 3.3.0.18, 3.3.0.25 and 3.3.0.32 and get the same message each time.

Environment

Release : ARD Studio 3.3

Cause

ARD Studio installation fails. The customer tried with three different installations; 3.3.0.18, 3.3.0.25, and 3.3.0.32 and got the same message each time.

Errors:

AgileDesigner_3.3.0.32.log

MSI (s) (50:44) [14:07:42:742]: File 'C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\CA\AgileDesigner\install\disk1.cab' is not trusted.  WinVerifyTrust returned 0x800B010A

AgileDesigner_3.3.0.25.log

MSI (s) (10:58) [12:50:13:351]: File 'C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\CA\AgileDesigner\install\disk1.cab' is not trusted.  WinVerifyTrust returned 0x800B010A

AgileDesigner_3.3.0.18.log

MSI (s) (F0:7C) [13:34:16:840]: File 'C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\CA\AgileDesigner\install\disk1.cab' is not trusted.  WinVerifyTrust returned 0x800B010A

This is because the Digicert Root certificate on the customer's machine is not set as a trusted certificate due to the signature not being accepted as a valid certificate.

Resolution

To resolve this, get a copy of the correct Degicert certificate from a working system, or contact the Broadcom Support team to help locate a valid certificate. Then install the certificate on the system where you are trying to install the ARD Studio using the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the disk1.cab > Digital Signatures > Click on Details > View Certificate

  2. Click on Digicert (root) > click on View Certificate > Copy to File

  3. Export File format, use Base-64 encoding

  4. Save as digicert

  5. Locate the digicert.cer > Right-click on it > Install certificate

  6. Store in Local Machine

  7. Select Automatically select the certificate store…

  8. Complete the installation. Repeat the steps for the other any certificates in the chain (as needed)

  9. Click on View Certificate > Export > Save > install.

  10. Once all the certificates of the chain have been installed in the server, close ARD .exe and retry.
