To satisfy business requirements, upgrading to the latest build is needed for a given environment,
1. Check system requirements -
2. Remove old Oracle Java versions
3. Install latest JRE8 for Oracle Java or Open java (note that SPE 9.1.0 uses Java to serve the REST API which the console then uses to manage each SPE scanner remotely)
4. Change environment variables to point to new JRE.
5. Backup *.xml files from the installation folder (By default, /opt/symcscan/bin/*.xml on Linux or C:\Program Files\Symantec\Scan Engine\*.xml on Windows)
6. Upgrade from SPE 7.9.1 to SPE 8.2.2.
7. Check that the SPE UI works before proceeding.
8. If Java UI works, upgrade top SPE 9.1.0. Note that the Java UI will be disabled for this version.
9. Install SPE console on a Windows server and add SEP scanners to the console in SPE server groups.
