SITEMINDER

Issue/Introduction

The Siteminder Policy Server is running on Windows Server and is configured to rotate the smtracedefault.log at a certain size, however the trace log fails to rotate and continues to grow significantly larger than the size configured for rotation.

Environment

PRODUCT: Siteminder

COMPONENT: Policy Server

VERsION: ANY

OPERATING SYSTEM: ANY

Cause

This is a very rare condition that can happen when there is high Disk IO.  This is most frequently occurs in a virtualized environment or when application files, swap space and transaction logs are on the same disk.

Resolution

Ways to mitigate this issue.

1. Too frequent rollovers.  Increase size of rollover to reduce frequency

2. Move trace logs to a dedicated volume to reduce Disk IO

3. There are too many files to kept in the log folder, or very little free space for overhead.  Ensure there is free space and review log retention policy.
