Issue/Introduction

How to temporarily stop or permanently remove the Network Boot Service (NBS) / PXE functionality on a Site Server.

Environment

ITMS 8.7.x, 8.8.x

Resolution

You can disable or remove PXE functionality by targeting the Network Boot Service (NBS) on your Site Server using one of the following methods:

Method 1: Uninstall Network Boot Service via Symantec Management Console (Recommended)

  • Open the Symantec Management Console.

  • Navigate to Settings > Notification Server > Site Server Settings.

  • Expand Site Servers and select the target Site Server hosting the NBS role.

  • Click Services > Install/Remove Services.

  • In the Add/Remove Services dialog window, uncheck Network Boot Service.

  • Click Next. The agent will automatically uninstall the service during its next configuration update.

Method 2: Manually Stop NBS via the Symantec Agent UI

If you need to quickly stop the service directly on the Site Server machine without uninstalling it:

  • Log into the Site Server hosting the NBS role.

  • Open the Symantec Management Agent UI from the system tray or taskbar.

  • Select the NBS Server tab.

  • Click Stop to manually stop the running Network Boot Services.
