Issue/Introduction

After installing ADK for WinPE10/11, building a pre-boot configuration and subsequent update on the PXE server fails.

One possible message on PXE server is "update failed for the new configuration".

NBS site server agent logs may show a message similar to "download successful. status retrying".

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

One possible cause of this issue involves WinPE optional packages installed in the incorrect order or with unmet dependencies

Resolution

When selecting WinPE packages to use in a pre-boot environment (Preboot Environment Settings), many of the options require dependencies to be installed in the correct order.

To meet those requirements, the pre-boot configuration now has a selector and order of magnitude of which the options are going to be installed.

Please refer to the following article and Microsoft documentation for further information about package dependency and installation order:

Add WinPE optional packages so that Powershell, DISM and SecureBoot can be used, and error BDC_ERR_WIM_INSERT_PACKAGE
