Issue/Introduction

When configuring modules in Identity Portal, selecting the appropriate SOAP method is critical for retrieving accurate user search results. This article clarifies the functional differences between ViewUserQuery and ViewUserSearch to ensure user lists are displayed correctly.

Environment

Identity Portal: 14.5 & 15

Cause

In Identity Portal, user accounts with shared attributes (such as an email address) may fail to display fully if the incorrect method is utilized. The ViewUserQuery SOAP method is designed to return a single user object. If a search query matches multiple users, this method will only return the first match.

Resolution

To retrieve a comprehensive list of users matching a specific attribute, use the ViewUserSearch method:

  1. Access the Identity Portal Management Console.
  2. Navigate to the specific module configuration where the search is performed.
  3. Locate the SOAP method configuration settings.
  4. Change the method from ViewUserQuery to ViewUserSearch.
  5. Save the changes and restart the module or refresh the environment to apply the new search logic.
  6. Perform a test search (e.g., searching by email or name) to verify that all matching user accounts are now returned in the list.
