Issue/Introduction

The Firewall policy was working properly earlier, until it stopped working and started blocking Microsoft SQL cluster connections. The Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) firewall policy is blocking SQL cluster connections.

Cause

Warning: The firewall policy has a large number of hosts specified individually (xxxx) - consider using ranges and subnets instead

The number of hosts caused the policy to process too slowly to keep pace with the cluster heartbeat.

Resolution

In the Firewall policy, remove the hosts-based rules or trim the number of entries down so there are not so many. Over a 1000 hosts entries can begin to cause problems such as this one.
