Protection Engine 9.1 Console upgrade error: The previous installed version could not be found in registry

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to install the SPE 9.1 console on a Windows computer to which a previous version is already installed, the program terminates with an Install Error box:   The previous installed version could not be found in registry

 

Environment

Release : 9.1.0.25

Cause

The program that terminated was msiexec.exe. It is attempting to open/read "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{0FC8A685-FDE5-47C7-878A-8534F5FEA2BC}" but is prevented by local permissions from doing so. UAC is likely turned up high.

Resolution

Right click on the console installation program and select the option to "Run as Administrator"
