Why In-Place Upgrade Win R2012 to R2019 for Flow Monitoring not recommended

NFA Guide

Do not perform an in-place upgrade of the Windows operating system. To upgrade a Windows Server 2012 system which is hosting an existing version of DX NetOps, you must provision a new server with Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition.

    Environment

    All releases

    Cause

The Windows Operating System (OS) 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022 etc has different kernel instruction and some instruction from one OS does not work on another OS. The NFA installation detect the Windows version and install the correct library to work with the correct OS.
Also the NFA has several information on Windows Register and the Windows upgrade change several entries and causes NFA processing fail.

    Resolution

This is the experience that we had and because of this we recommended "Do not perform an in-place upgrade of the Windows operating system".
