Issue/Introduction

Unexpected Server Error after 14.3 RU7 upgrade when logging into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager [SEPM] console. 

When attempting to start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver service, an error: Windows could not start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to the service-specific error code 1.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver service terminated with the following service-specific error: 
Incorrect function.

ODBC connection test throws a certificate error. (System DSN)

Environment

Release : 14.3 RU3 upgrade to 14.3 RU7

Cause

The certificate could not be transferred during the upgrade successfully.

Resolution

Roll back the installation to before the upgrade.

Use the following article to generate a new certificate:

Update the server certificate on the management server without breaking communications with the client

Once complete (and ensure all clients get the new certificate) proceed with the upgrade.
