Vtape Virtual Tape System

Issue/Introduction

Jobs abending when trying to process tapes backed up using FDR.

FDR324** DDNAME=TAPE# IS MISSING OR IN ERROR REASON=U - OPEN ERROR - CHECK JOB LOG MESSAGE

FDR997** FDR ABNORMALLY TERMINATED RESTORE FROM VOL=TAPE#

Volumes had been copied from old ATL to new VTS using COPYCAT.

Environment

Release : 12.6

Cause

When migrating EDM volumes to a new VTS, FDR was NOT used as the data mover for EDM volumes.

Volumes controlled by FDR (Data Manager) as MIGRAT/ARCHIV type are considered by CA1 to be EDM volumes.

COPYCAT migration process has copied the data but not updated pointers in the FDR database.

Resolution

Recovery action in this instance is to restore data at the Volume (not dataset) level.

Additional Information

It is always recommended that EDM volumes use the EDM data mover to migrate to a new VTS environment.

This will ensure that data pointers are updated correctly.
