Issue/Introduction

Messaging Gateway adds headers to the email messages it scans as part of its normal operations. This document defines the set of headers added to all SMTP emails.

Resolution

The following headers are added by the Messaging Gateway product as part of normal email message processing. This list is not exhaustive and additional headers may be added based on the SMG policy configuration.

X-AuditID - a unique ID assigned to the message for tracking and message audit logging

X-Brightmail-Tracker - Message scanning and tracking metadata.

Authentication-Results - detailed results of the various sender authentication schemes, inserted by MTA for the Sender Authentication feature.

Return-Path - The SMTP protocol MAIL FROM value. Note: if the SMTP sender is the special sender "<>" the Return-Path header will be empty
