Issue/Introduction

Is there a way to remove an old set of licenses that are currently in place in our SMP Server so I can install a new set of them?

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Resolution

If an old set of licenses needs to be removed in order for the new file to be applied properly, try the following:

  1. Download the new license file. Make sure you have received a new license file with all the right totals and expiration dates on it.
  2. The previous licenses need to be removed from the system. To do this, on your SMP server go to "C:\ProgramData\Symantec Shared\Licenses" and delete the files there (the licenses files will appear with a format name like 'sym5adf4dd700.slf' for example).
  3. Open Task Scheduler>Task Scheduler Library on the server. Run "NS.Internal Licensing Refresh Item.{e8136a00-759c-4471-addc-b1d9e58cb5bd}"
  4. Open SIM and go to "Add/Update Licenses".
  5. All the licenses will appear as Expired or Trial.
  6. Apply the new license file.
  7. Counts and expiration dates will now display from the new licenses.
