Questions about the hold actions for the PTFs: LU07249 and LU08595.

Q1. LU07249 - It is a RACF shop, does this hold action have to be applied? (Not using ESM microservices).

Q2. LU08595 - What is this hold action about?

Environment

COMMON SERVICES 15.0 - z/OS supported releases -

Resolution

A1. About LU07249 PTF, since the PTF only applies to the ESM microservice, the hold data can be ignored if this component is not used in the Common Services 15.0 environment.

A2. About LU08595 PTF,there is a chapter in Common Services 15.0 documentation about FRS:

Use the Feature Registration Service

Issuing the CAS9 START command to start CAIRIM which also starts the FRS.

After the FRS starts, message CAS9R001I appears on the operator console. If other messages appear, review them and correct any errors or warnings.

When a Broadcom Mainframe product starts, it calls the FRS to register its features with the IBM Function Registry for z/OS.

The data can be viewed for that product in the registry.

The CAS9R001I message would be seen in the syslog when the system is IPL'ed and NOT in the CAS9 jobog.

This message was introduced with the FRS Service via PTF SO15973.

This has been installed running at the 15.0.4 service level as seen by the following message in the CAS9 joblog:

CAS9194I - COMMON COMPONENTS AND SERVICES LEVEL SET: 15.0.04

So not having a product that will utilize the JAVA FRS capability, there is no need to run the J2ZDPLOY job as mentioned in the holddata.

But by applying the PTF, having its availability if it is needed in the future.

The only reason for not installing this PTF is if the FMID CFF6F00is not installed.
