Issue/Introduction

For Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) 9, are there built-in limits to the size of files which SPE scans?

Environment

Release : 9.0.1

Resolution

For SPE 9, there is not really a built-in software restriction. This is subject to resources available, especially memory.

  • File limit(MaxFileSize): By default there is no file limit. Files can be set to be blocked if they exceed a specified size.
  • Container limit: No enforcement from SPE,  Stargate limit applies.
  • Container nesting limit(MaxExtractDepth): Default is 10, min is 1, max is 50 depth
  • Extracted file size limit(MaxExtractSize): No limit when set to zero (0) in SPE configuration. Default is 100MB, max is 128GB
  • Cumulative extracted file size(MaxCumulativeExtractSize): No limit when set to zero(0) in SPE configuration. Default is 0, max is 137438953471 bytes
  • Extracted file count limit(MaxExtractFileCount): No limit when set to zero(0) in SPE configuration. Default is 0, max is 32212254720 files
