Issue/Introduction

When I try to open logmon IM GUI I get the following Runtime error:

Run-time error '-2147010895 (800736b1)':
Automation error

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Environment

  • DX UIM 20.4.* / 23.4.*
  • Logmon versions earlier than 4.23 affected.

Cause

Missing Dependency for probe GUI

Resolution

Background:

  • The Logmon versions IM GUI before version 4.23, (Eg. v4.10, v4.11, v4.20) are dependent on Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86
  • Starting Logmon version 4.23, it does not need vs2008 any more see: DX UIM Dependency on Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.
Instead it needs: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017.

How to resolve the GUI error:

  • Upgrade the probe to logmon 4.23 and ensure The IM is running Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x64)
Download link for Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x64) - Microsoft Community

  • As logmon earlier versions (Eg. v4.10, v4.11, v4.20) are only dependent on vs2008 for the IM GUI and not for the execution, to run earlier versions without vs2008, simply ensure you have logmon 4.23 archive present in the hub where IM is logged at. When invoked, the probe's GUI files are pulled from the probe archive from nimsoft/archive on the logged hub. if logmon 4.23 is in the archive, it pulls the GUI from the latest version, hence, it works.

Additional Information

Alternatively, if the system where the IM is running has a robot installed on it, simply deploy the related VS packages present in the archive to the robot/syste where IM is running:
