Issue/Introduction

Can L-Serv LDMAMS utility be used to REPRO REUSE an ELIB?

Resolution

This problem has been resolved by LSERV 14.0 PTF LU12798 which has been published on May, the 22nd, 2024.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                            
The REPRO function of the LDMAMS utility may insert a dummy record into the target VSAM file when the REUSE option is specified. This option is normally used when restoring a VSAM    
file from a backup created by LDMAMS.                            
                                                                 
SYMPTOMS:                                                        
Some applications, including Endevor, may treat this dummy record as a corruption, and be unable to proceed.                      
Endevor may issue the following message:                        
C1LB014E ENDEVOR LIB PAGE #  1 HEADER DATA DAMAGED.              
                                                                 
The issue has only been observed with the Endevor ELIB ESDS file, but could happen with other products/files too.            
                                                                 
IMPACT:                                                          
The VSAM file may be unusable.  

CIRCUMVENTION:                                                          
1> REMOVEFILE command to unallocate the file from LSERV                  
2> Rune the IBM IDCAMS REPRO utility to restore the VSAM file.          
3> ADDFILE command to re-allocate the file to LSERV.                    
                                                                         
PRODUCT(S) AFFECTED:                                                    

L-Serv (Common Components and Services)                      Release 14.0

Additional Information

If the above mentioned PTF is not applied, the LDMAMS utility cannot take the place of this process to reorganize ELIB files.  Executing an LDMAMS will destroy the structure of the E-Lib files making them unusable.
