How to allow a user to define clusters for one VSAM catalog but not others?

 

 

Environment

Release: 3.4

Resolution

Define security rules at the catalog level.

From the MasterCat main menu select

S     Secure CA-MASTERCAT online then
B     VSAM Catalog Security

If you do not see the userid on this panel, hit PF4 to add the user.

Enter the username and model id ( if desired.)

Press PF4 again. On this panel enter the name of the catalog you wish to secure and place a 'N' next to Define Cluster/Alternate Index and hit PF4 to save the changes.

Catalog: VSAM.MASTERCAT.CATALOG

N    ...  VSAM File Editor      (Edit Mode)  
Y    ...  VSAM File Editor      (Browse Mode)
Y    ...  Global IDCAMS Job Generation       
N    ...  Define Cluster/Alternate Index     
Y    ...  Define User Catalog                
Y    ...  Define Data Space                  
Y    ...  Define Path                        
Y    ...  Alter Catalog Attributes           
Y    ...  Delete a VSAM object 

If the user is already defined, edit the userid and press PF4 to add a new catalog name. On this panel enter the name of the catalog you wish to secure and place a 'N' next to Define Cluster/Alternate Index and hit PF4 to save the changes
