Issue/Introduction

We are monitoring Oracle databases using the Oracle probe by installing a robot on the Oracle DB server and we are monitoring them locally.

The database team has a requirement of monitoring the Oracle DBs that are in Stand-by mode.

When I am trying to add the connection in the oracle probe for the standby db instance I am getting the below error message:

Connection test to XXXX failed with: ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress

DB team said that these database instance are in mount state and not open state. Is there a way where we can monitor these standby database.

Environment

Release : 20.4

Resolution

The Oracle database generated the error (ORA-01033) because the instance is in a mount state.  When receiving this response, the probe is not able to complete the connection and monitor the database instance.  Until the database is in an open state, it can be connected to only as sysdba.  (information posted on Oracle forums)

Unless the database will allow a connection without this error, it will not be monitorable by the oracle probe.
