How l long does initialization take for the Dell VA084 storage arrays?

Issue/Introduction

The Dell VA084 or equivalent storage arrays contain 70 hard drives that are 12 TB each.  Initializing the drives is something that happens in the background after you configure the logical volumes on the storage array.

Resolution

Initialization times varies widely depending on if there is active disk activity (I/O).  As a baseline, with no disk activity, full initialization can still take 2-3 days and much longer if there is active I/O.
