Issue/Introduction

WSS Agent enabled with SAML based authentication, needing the Webview2 plugin.

Other Applications running on the same host as the WSS Agent require the Webview2 plugins - with over 100k workstations using the following Webview2 versions:

91.0.864.x
92.0.902.x
94.0.992.x
98.0.1108.x
103.0.1264.x
105.0.1343.x
107.0.1418.x
108.0.1462.x
109.0.1518.x
110.0.1587.x
111.0.1661.x

Will WSS Agent work with SAML with all of these Webview2 versions?

Environment

WSS Agent.

Webview2 with SAML support.

Resolution

Officially, no specific version is required for Webview2 to be used by WSS Agent with SAML authentication enabled. WSS Agent 8.1.1 was released on May 18, 2022. Webview2 '1.0.1248-prerelease' had just been released and all subsequent updates will have undergone testing with the WSS Agent QA team.

From the above list, we did confirm that the hosts running the earlier 91, 92, 94, and 98 Webview2 builds all worked fine.

Additional Information

Webview2 simply needs to be installed as a system user and ideally be the evergreen installer. The advantage of having Webview evergreen installed is that it will be automatically updated by Windows.

Webview updates are generally just security updates - the API itself is considered stable by Microsoft and doesn't change - so application compatibility is not usually affected.
