XCOM Data Transport

Issue/Introduction

ERROR: XCOM File Transfer ended; 0 blocks (0 bytes) transmitted in 0.This problem has resurfaced again this time with STAT_FREQUENCY=10.

Environment

  • XCOMâ„¢ Data Transport® for AIX 11.6 SP1
  • AIX 7.3

Cause

Zero counts are a permission problem because xcomtcp cannot read the values from the queue.

Resolution

After resetting STAT_FREQUENCY=10 which is default value, XCOM started logging BLOCK / BYTES transfer size accurately.

These counts are taken by the xcomtcp process from the XCOM queue which is updated by the xcomd daemon (or xcomd service in windows). You could also document that incorrect (nonzero) counts are likely the result of a too high STAT_FREQUENCY and that  zero counts are likely to be a permission problem because xcomtcp cannot read the counts from the queue.  The only way to prove the permission problem is taking a trace.
