Tips before upgrading to Scheduler r11

Resolution

There are many new features and changes introduced in Scheduler r11 which are described in the CA Scheduler Job Management Release Notes. There are also changes to the installation process. Here are a few tips that can assist you in upgrading.

  • Datacom/AD r11 SP2 or CA Datacom/DB r11 SP2 or later is required to run Scheduler r11.
  • Scheduler r11 provides an ISPF REXX EXEC to tailor all of the SAMPJCL members at once. This will eliminate tailoring each member in the SAMPJCL. Additional information can be found in the CA Scheduler Job Management Installation Guide, Step 6: Tailor SAMPJCL Members.
  • SMP zones and data set name have changed from the prior releases. These changes are documented in the CA Scheduler Job Management Release Notes, Chapter 2.11 Installation Changes.
  • Scheduler r11 cannot share its SVC with other releases of Scheduler. If another release of Scheduler is installed in the same LPAR, specify a different SVC number in the range of 200-255 in the CAS9 MAIN.
  • The Scheduler data base 430 has an additional DATA AREA called HST to store the data for the new Job and Schedule History feature. Jobs are provided in assisting you in calculating the space requirements. Use SAMPJCL(ISTEP20A) if you are upgrading from Scheduler 9.1 or SAMPJCL(ISTEP19A) from Scheduler 9.0 upgrade. The values produced contain the existing history record count of 7 occurrences per job and adjustments will be required if you plan on increasing retention of records. Refer to the CA Scheduler Job Management Systems Programmer Guide, Chapter 2.1.2 CAS9 CAIJGEN Command and the Online Reference Guide for usage.
  • Scheduler history records for jobs and schedules in r11 are in a new format. Once you have successfully upgraded and do not have plans of falling back to the previous release, you will need to run SAMPJCL member HISTUP.  This will populate the pre r11 history records using the new format.
  • Scheduler Auto Failover support feature is now available together with the Datacom/AD "shadow MUF" feature. The Scheduler started tasks will automatically restart themselves when Datacom/AD MUF becomes unavailable. For more information about multiple CPU operations, see the Systems Programmer Guide.
  • If you are using a Console Automation product to capture Scheduler messages, refer to the list in the CA Scheduler Job Management Release Notes, Chapter 12 Additional Changes to CA Scheduler and Chapter 13 Rebranded Messages.

Review the CA Scheduler Job Management Release Notes to see the new features that can save time and add value to your workload processing.
