From time to time when a backup is running using the following input:
SCAN REALVOLS,SHOWVOL
SELECT SGNAME=SYST
BACKUP
the job finish with a s878 abend.
Release : 14.0
The S878 isn't a product of a storage leak or other bug; it's a combination of DSS being loaded (which resides below the line) and the customer converting to using RUCSA, which eliminates another 1MB of below-the-line private storage.
There is an idea under consideration to use the cross memory interface to DSS, which was provided by IBM to alleviate this very problem, as it loads the DSS load module in a different address space.
A work-around would be if client could address the applications that require user key CSA, and thus disable RUCSA.
An Idea within the "Broadcom Ideas" program should be opened to help prioritize it, as other customers could vote on it.
