Deployment Solution

Issue/Introduction

When booting a computer to an automation or pre-boot environment, the Initial Deployment Job menu fails to display. This occurs even when settings are configured to respond to unknown and managed computers. In some instances, the automation logs may appear mostly empty.

Environment

  • Deployment Solution (DS) 8.x
  • IT Management Suite (ITMS) 8.8

Cause

The Initial Deployment Job menu may be missing due to one of the following reasons:

  • Existing Schedules: Initial Deployment only runs if no jobs are already scheduled for the computer record.
  • Outdated Preboot Configurations: After an upgrade, existing preboot configurations may use an older agent that is incompatible with the newer Deployment Solution version

Resolution

Option 1: Scheduled Jobs or Duplicate Records

  1. Navigate to Manage > Computers in the console.
  2. Search for the name or IP address of the computer booted to automation.
  3. If multiple records exist, check for scheduled jobs or tasks.
  4. Delete invalid computer records. Note that this will remove all record information for those computers from the database.

Option 2: Recreate Preboot Configurations (Post-Upgrade) If the issue occurs following an upgrade (e.g., to version 8.8):

  1. Navigate to the preboot configurations settings.
  2. Recreate the preboot configurations to ensure they use the latest compatible agent.
  3. Update the configurations on all NBS servers
