Issue/Introduction

The Validation Server settings from an existing VIP Enterprise Gateway do not import to a fresh VIP Enterprise Gateway installation, the Validation Servers are imported but will not start, or the Validation Server(s) will not start after rolling back an upgrade.

The vipegconsole.log in DEBUG mode contains the message:

DEBUG "2022-05-08 11:28:35.782 GMT-0600" 10.253.38.170 vipconsole 1934589199 1701777044608757 0  "actor=admin,text=Copying contents of C:\Program Files\Symantec\VIP_Enterprise_Gateway\conf\valServer.properties to C:\Program Files\Symantec\VIP_Enterprise_Gateway\conf\valServerTemp16373370252770513286.properties"

Environment

Resolution

After the failed import or roll-back:

  • Browse to the \VIP_Enterprise_Gateway\conf directory.
  • Rename valServer.properties to valServer.properties.old
  • Delete any valServerTemp*.properties files, such as valServerTemp9287663.properties. Do not delete the valServer.properties.old file!
  • Browse to the \VIP_Enterprise_Gateway\Validation\servers directory and create a new TEMP folder
  • Move (don't copy) all existing folders into the TEMP folder. example:

  • Restart the VIP Enterprise Gateway service, log into the console, then confirm no validation Servers exist on the Validation tab.
  • Import the settings in the the VIP Enterprise Gateway. Confirm that the imported Validation Servers exist on the Validation tab.
  • Rename valServer.properties.old back to valServer.properties (this file is case-sensitive).
  • Start the imported validation server(s).
  • Delete the TEMP folder after the Validation Server(s) are functioning as expected.
