Issue/Introduction

Instructions on how to upgrade Apache Tomcat in JasperReports using the Windows Install Wizard for Tomcat

This instruction set will deploy a new Tomcat instance, which may conflict with any existing Tomcat implementations on the same server

Environment

CA Service Desk Manager 17.4

JasperSoft Server 9.0

All Supported Windows Operating Systems

Resolution

1. Download the appropriate Tomcat 9.x version from the Apache website.  Select the Windows Service Installer, which should be an exe extension file

2.  Install the new Tomcat version following the instructions from Apache's website to a new directory.  Do NOT start the new Tomcat service.

Refer to the Apache Tomcat Setup Guide for details regarding Tomcat Window service deployment:

3. Copy the jasperserver-pro folder from the original Tomcat install (i.e. apache-tomcat\webapps\jasperserver-pro) to the Tomcat webapps directory of the new Tomcat version.

4.  Copy the JRS repository JDBC jar file from the original Tomcat install apache-tomcat\lib directory to the new Tomcat \lib directory.

5.  Navigate to the new Tomcat install bin folder (i.e. Tomcat 9\bin) and run the Tomcat Administration program (i.e. Tomcat9w.exe) and click on the Java tab

6.  Configure the JVM settings the same the as the previous Tomcat installed version

7.  Start the new Tomcat service and test access to the JasperSoft UI.

Additional Information

We recommend testing all changes/upgrades in a non-PROD environment first.

This instruction set assumes the use of the Windows installer to create the Tomcat installation.

To use the manual method to install Tomcat, where the binaries are deployed into a filesystem instead of using the Windows installer wizard, please review Upgrade Apache Tomcat via manual filesystem deployment for JasperReports

Broadcom does not distribute Tomcat Apache, the process described in this document is provided as a courtesy to help our clients running JasperServer on the Tomcat engine, and should be performed with the assistance of your Tomcat Administrator.
