The DB2 Command processor fails with PT124E IFI FAILED - RETURN CODE-00000008

Issue/Introduction

The DB2 Command processor is not working. For example, for display thread command:

-DISPLAY THREAD (*)     it shows the following error message:

PT124E -  IFI FAILED - RETURN CODE-00000008, REASON CODE-00E60831

Resolution

The Db2 Command Processor (DB2C) -DISPLAY THREAD (*) process is an online interface similar to the the DB2I | 7  DB2 COMMANDS processing. It appears that Db2 IFI processing was having problems at the time of concern based on the following:

The Db2 Reason Code 00E60831 indicates:

Explanation                                                                
A number of abends have occurred while processing IFI requests resulting in the disabling of all IFI request and MONITOR trace processing.             

User response                                                               
Issue a -START TRACE to clear the condition. This condition may not be cleared by issuing the -START TRACE command via instrumentation facility interface COMMAND function.    

This is an IBM issue, the -START TRACE works around the problem.
