Issue/Introduction

How can I restore back to the old format TMC if I just upgraded to the new format with TMSXTEND?

  1.

Resolution

There are different tasks that need to be done to back out to the old format TMC. These are dependent upon whether or not you have created tapes while running with the extend format TMC.

If you have not had any tape processing from the point when you ran TMSCOPY (before the extend) until the NOW then you will need to:

  1. Restore the TMC from the backup taken just before starting the TMSXTEND process.
  2. IPL each system that uses this TMC

If you have had any tape processing since the TMSCOPY (before the extend) and the completion of the TMSXTEND procedure or after it finished then you will need to:

  1. Identify the tapes used for output during this time. You can use TMSGRW or EARL to locate tapes in the TMC with a CDATE and CTIME from the start of TMSCOPY to now.
  2. Run TMSSPLIT to generate the EXPORT file for the volumes used during this time.
  3. Rename the TMC to TMC.extended.
  4. Restore the TMC from the backup taken just before starting the TMSXTEND process.
  5. IPL.
  6. Bring up CA 1 with the restored old format TMC.
  7. Run TMSMERGE using the EXPORT file from TMSSPLIT.
