Issue/Introduction

GPG files can be decrypted using PGP keys generated by PGP Desktop or the Symantec Encryption Desktop clients and imported into the GPG keyrings. The resulting file is typically a .GPG file. This filetype is supported by Symantec Encryption by default.

Environment

Release : 10.5 and Later

Cause

GPG files utilize PGP Zip to extract the contents. PGP Zip is enabled by default but some customers opt to disable all features they think they will not use and may result in this error:


Unable to open "filename.gpg".  Invalid file type or functionality disabled.

Resolution

Enable PGP Zip in your SEMS client policy. You can find this setting under Consumers > Consumer Policy > (PolicyName) > Symantec Encryption Desktop [Desktop...]:
