Workflow project with an Application Profile fails to run due to the profile values not loading correctly

Issue/Introduction

When a Workflow project containing an Application Profile runs, the profile values are not loading correctly causing the project to fail.

Cause

In Windows 2018 the encryption/decryption algorithm for the password data type in application profiles was changed. Because of this, after Windows is upgraded, the decryptor is not capable of decrypting passwords encoded before the year 2018.  

 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, any attribute in the Application Profile that is defined as a Password data type needs to have the password re-entered and then saved to the profile. This will cause the attributes value to be resaved using the new encryption method.
