Issue/Introduction

New deployments of ProxySG virtual appliances (VAs) no longer support single data disk configurations. Existing single-disk configurations continue to work. To ensure redundancy and prevent data loss, migrate your single-disk configurations to multi-disk configurations.

This article provides steps for migrating your VAs from single-disk configurations to multi-disk configurations.

Environment

This article applies to only ProxySG virtual appliances running on supported platforms and environments.

Cause

Single-disk configurations contain one data disk and one boot disk. Multi-disk configurations contain two or more data disks and the boot disk. Multi-disk configurations ensure redundancy of system configurations if a data disk fails. Because single-disk configurations do not have redundancy, these configurations are more vulnerable to data and configuration loss than multi-disk configurations. To prevent data loss and (in extreme cases) your appliance from becoming inoperable, migrate your single-disk configurations to multi-disk configurations.

Resolution

View the following table to learn which VA model is recommended (based on your current VA model) and which procedure to use to migrate your VA model. After determining the migration procedure, see the following steps to either Add a Data Disk or Back Up and Create a New VA.

Add a Data Disk

To add a 100 GiB or 200 GiB data disk to your VA:

  1. In the ProxySG CLI, shut down the VA:
    #shutdown
  2. In the UI of the environment, power off the VA.
  3. Create a data disk that is 100 GiB or 200 GiB, depending on your recommended model.
  4. Attach the data disk to the VA.
  5. Power on the VA.
  6. In the ProxySG CLI, verify that the new disk was added correctly:
    >show disk all
