Communication time out to seosd appears continuously in syslog with an antivirus product.

Issue/Introduction

If CA Privileged Identity Manager (PIM) is running with an antivirus product, the following messages may appear in syslog and the system may slow down or freeze up occasionally.

seoswd: Communication time out to seosd. Executing seosd
seoswd: Communication problem with seosd returned 5378 [Success]
seoswd: Description: Timeout communication with seosd.

Cause

Anti-Virus applications may be blocking the execution of the PIM/PAMSC executable files.

Resolution

To avoid this, stop real time (on access) scan of antivirus product or exclude the PIM directory from real time scan. It will not increase the virus threat as PIM protects PIM installation directory and files by default.

It is also recommended to create SPECIALPGM class rules for the programs of antivirus products to bypass file access monitoring by the AV processes (pgmtype PBF).
