Issue/Introduction

We are in the process of transitioning from CSM to z/OSMF to install and update our Broadcom software but noticed that the Source IDs used for all of our Broadcom product PTFs use CAP* and ORD000*.

The z/OSMF Software Update 'Install Recommended' option looks for PTFs with source IDs of RSU*, SECINT,HIPER,CAR*, RSL* and PRP. Because of this the 'Install Recommended' option never lists any Broadcom PTFs that are available to install.

The only option we can use is the 'Install Corrective' option which requires us to manually enter each PTF number that we have received.

Broadcom PTFs should be packaged with Source IDs that match what zosmf is looking for.

Environment

Release : 14.0

Resolution

Our recommended maintenance is assigned with CARSyynn source ids. Not all maintenance is included in those sourceids so they are first assigned to CAP* sourceids. The HIPER maintenance is also assigned as it should as well as SECINT, etc.

You need to download and receive the CARS and HIPER assignments from the support site before being able to use the z/OSMF "Install Recommended" option.
You can download HOLDDATA automatically using the SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval.

Configure SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval

See the link below of the documentation that mentions the requirement of downloading the assignments for z/OSMF software updates:
