Data Loss Prevention API Detection for Developer Apps Virtual Appliance

Issue/Introduction

When changing between Enforce servers with a bound API Detection for Developer Apps Virtual Appliance, you receive the following error on the new Enforce server

Could not unbind appliance 'API Appliance name' because it was disconnected. Please complete the unbinding process from the appliance CLI.

Environment

Release : 15.8

Cause

API appliances must be the same version as the Enforce server.  For instance, if a 15.8 Enforce server is utilized, then a 15.8 API Appliance image must be used.

Resolution

To resolve the error, ensure that the API appliance is used with the same version of Enforce, and bound to that Enforce server.

Manually unbinding the appliance from the command line interface can be accomplished as follows:

localhost# dlp admin

Possible completions:

  reset-id   Reset the appliance ID.

unbind     Unbind appliance from the currently bound Enforce server.

localhost# dlp admin unbind

Note: "enable" access must be given in the Appliance CLI before attempting to unbind. To enter "enable" mode, type enable and enter the username and password that was configured upon Appliance deploymnent.
