PCService.log shows many ERROR: failed to determine polled metric family for item on device

Issue/Introduction

Our CA PC PCService.log shows many entries:

What causes these and do we need to address them, please?

Resolution

Look for other events logged around this error to get better idea about the root cause.

Those errors are usually a confirmation of an issue experienced by the user and not the source of an information.

Additional Information

There is no specific debug that would give us more details.

One example when this would be logged is when customer was trying to generate a report on an empty group which was harmless but will log this error.
