Issue/Introduction

A message appears in the SEMS console as a red banner at the top of the page:

"You have X concurrent sessions that are active"

Environment

Release: 10.5.1

Cause

This banner is displayed when the same user is logged in at different locations or in different browsers.

As an example, If the same user logged into Edge and Google Chrome, that would be 2 independent sessions and you would see this banner.
Another example is if the user logs into the console on two different machines.

Logging into the SEMS console as the same user in different tabs in the same browser should be considered the same browser and will not display the same message.

Resolution

You can check SEMS console administrator activity in the logs on the SEMS console in Reporting > Logs, then change the log dropdown to Administration and see the user log in activity:

In the green outlined examples above, we see the user 'admin' logging in from 2 different IP addresses, causing the 2 concurrent sessions. You can match these login attempts with the timestamps at the right of these log entries (not pictured here).

Note that the [UNAUTHENTICATED USER] in the red outlines only indicate a new non-cached login from that location, and is not a concern.

If you see login attempts from IP addresses during timeframes that are unfamiliar to that user, we recommend investigating the source of those activities immediately as it could indicate compromise.
