Issue/Introduction

When XCOM r11.6 is already installed, starting an upgrade for XCOM r12.0 may result in error "Installer detected r11.6 SPnn 64-bit was installed, but XCOM_HOME is not set correctly on your system Set XCOM_HOME correctly to upgrade to r12.0 SPnn (64-bit) version." on the Cleanup Choice panel.

Environment

  • XCOM for Windows 11.6,12.0
  • File Explorer
  • MS Windows Server

Cause

Microsoft Problem: Explorer.exe tasks running during install are not updated to with current environment variables.

Resolution

To resolve this problem:

  1. Open Windows task manager (<ctrl> <shift> <esc>)
  2. Go to the details tab.
  3. Locate any explorer.exe tasks
  4. End those tasks
  5. Select Confirm to end the tasks when prompted.
  6. Select File in the upper left corner of task manager
  7. Select “Run a new task”
  8. Type “explorer.exe’
  9. End task manager
  10. Start another install.

The message “XCOM_HOME is not set correctly message”  is resolved.

Additional Information

The Task manager may appear a bit differently depending on OS version, but the basic steps should be the same.
