Issue/Introduction

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
An index processing error during the SMF dump process can result
in an index block having a free space count less than zero. This
occurs when an index entry ends exactly at the end of an index
block.

The error does not show up as an issue right away. It manifests
when the next dump process completes for that configuration.
An ABEND0C7 occurs during the index update process.

SYMPTOMS:
The error appears as follows:

  CAF2899T  RUN ABENDED SYSTEM=0C7, IN   SMFIDSXM+00074E

A diagnostic snap is produced by SMF Director.

IMPACT:
All subsequent dump process runs for that configuration will fail
with the same abend code.  Dump processes on other configurations
will run successfully.

The correction here is only preventative.

If this error is encountered, the only way to resume dump
processing is to run a RESTORE of the SCDS from the last
BACKUP of the SCDS before the last successful dump process
was run. Once the RESTORE completes, history files that
have been dumped since the BACKUP was run can be added to
the index via the usual methods for adding external SMF
data to the index.

CIRCUMVENTION:
None.
