Issue/Introduction

This document describes the use of codepages, to allow the use of the Euro symbol in a View report annotation.

When creating an annotation for a report, and the Euro symbol is entered correctly, after pressing [Enter], the character changes to what appears to be a blank space. The character is actually a x'5F'.

The correct hexadecimal representation for the Euro sign is a x'9F'.

Environment

  • View®
  • OM View for z
  • Output Management View® for z/OS

Resolution

  1.  Ensure that the codepage, which is defined with the 3270 emulator, is able to translate the Euro sign.
  2.  Run SARINIT, with only the NAME=... card, and see what is defined for the CODEPAGE=... parameter (default of CODEPAGE=037).
Note: The CODEPAGE=037 table does not contain a value for x'9F'. This explains why, after pressing [Enter], that the character changes in appearance.
  3. In ISPF EDIT, if you set "hex on" for a report that contains a Euro sign, and something other than a x'9F' is displayed, then the problem is not with View, but instead with the emulator being used.  Some codepages, other than 037, represent the Euro as a x'9F'.
  4.  Use CODEPAGE=$01, as it will preserve the x'9F'.
