S878 abend in ACFRPTRV after z/OS Upgrade

Issue/Introduction

Post the z/OS upgrade from version 2.3 to 2.5, a ACFRPTRV job that runs against the weekly SMF data is getting S878 abend while running with largest available region below the bar. What is causing this issue?

Resolution

After upgrading to z/OS 2.5, the number of weekly logging records increased dramatically causing the job to fail with an S878 abend as the job was using maximum available region.

The ACFRPTRV in this case was being used to review all the loggings for new validations related to z/OS upgrade.

The weekly job should not be run for a few weeks until the daily jobs are reviewed and the rules have been modified. After that is completed, then the weekly job can be run when the number of loggings is manageable.
