TMR009 abend during REFRESH on z/VM 6.4 system running on z16

Issue/Introduction

If configured with a CA-1 TMC, VM:Tape could abend with a TMR009 while running REFRESH running z/VM 6.4 on z16 hardware.

 

TMR009

An error occurred in a full track read operation.

 

 

 

Environment

VM:Tape 2.0, shared TMC managed on z/OS; CA-1 TMC and AUDIT

 

Cause

Interface control check on DASD device where CA-1 TMC resides caused TMR009 abend.

 

Resolution

If the Operator console indicates an Interface control check on the DASD device where the CA-1 TMC resides, try varying the offending chpid offline (still leaving other paths to the device).   Next time you issue the RERESH command, it should work.  

 

Additional Information

Also verify you have VM:Tape PTF LU09193 applied that prevents PRG004 abends.
