Issue/Introduction

You are asking if the on-premise Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager's support Transparent Data Encryption of data at rest per https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/security/encryption/transparent-data-encryption?view=sql-server-ver16

Environment

Windows server 2012+
Sql Server 2012+

Resolution

Currently TDE is fully supported for the SEM5 database and at rest data.  Because the TDE encryption is SQL side only, and 'under' the application access the encryption occurs in a way that does not affect SQL client applications.  All SQL client applications running on the SQL instance will run as normal and be unaware of the encryption underneath.

No special Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager modifications need to be made as the TDE occurs transparently under the application access to the SQL data.
