Issue/Introduction

In our DEV environment we are currently unable to log into the Directory Management UI using the admin username and password.
How do we reset admin user password?

Environment

Release : 12.x, 14.x

Resolution

To reset admin user password in Directory Management UI:

  1. Run command line session using Administrator user in Windows or dsa user in Linux

  2. Stop Management UI DSA:

    dxserver stop <hostname>-management-ui

  3. Dump DSA data into LDIF file:

    dxdumpdb -f managementui.ldif <hostname>-management-ui

  4. Edit managementui.ldif file:

    - find the entry with admin user DN: cn=admin,ou=users,o=management-ui
    - replace userPassword attribute value in the above entry with a new password in clear text:

    Original is something like this:
    dn: cn=admin,ou=users,o=management-ui
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: top
    cn: admin
    sn: admin
    userPassword: {SSHA512}enrypted_value_here
    createTimestamp: 20230216185048.015Z

Replace it with something like this:

    dn: cn=admin,ou=users,o=management-ui
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: top
    cn: admin
    sn: admin
    userPassword: password
    createTimestamp: 20230216185048.015Z

  5. Load the LDIF data back into the DSA:

    dxloaddb <hostname>-management-ui managementui.ldif

  6. Start the DSA:

    dxserver start <hostname>-management-ui
