Issue/Introduction

When PGP Command Line is attempting to execute multiple commands at the same time you may see this error message displayed.

C:\ProgramData\PGP Corporation\PGP\PGPprefs.xml:decrypt (1009:unable to open preferences file)

Environment

Release : 10.5.1

Commonly on Windows servers.

Rarely on Linux servers.

Cause

Every time a command is executed, PGP command line has to read the PGPprefs.xml file in %allusersprofile%\PGP Corporation\PGP to query the licensing and settings for the environment.

When multiple commands or tasks execute at the same time, file access collision can happen and the PGPprefs.xml file is unavailable for a brief moment, causing other tasks to fail.

Resolution

Stagger routine scheduled tasks that use PGP command line by up to a minute.
